Abstract

This article brings new elements to the history of the publishing of Dell’uso e dei pregi della lingua italiana by Galeani Napione. Two editions of the treatise exist: Turin 1791 and Florence 1813. The 1813 edition, considered by scholars the definitive version, is linked to Napione’s collaboration with Clemente Damiano di Priocca, an influential figure in Savoy politics and later Minister of Foreign Affairs in Turin from 1796 to 1798. The author highlights the friendship and collaboration between Napione and Priocca and, on the basis of an annotated copy that belonged to the latter, takes a fresh look at the history of the changes introduced in the 1813 edition
