Abstract

The paper is situated between pragmatics, conversation analysis and text linguistics. After outlining the contours of the class of discourse markers, on the basis of a recent book by Andrea Sansò, we reflect on the relationship between discourse markers and connectives in the strict sense. It turns out that connectives coincide with a sub-type of the sub-class of metatextual discourse markers. They are morphologically invariable elements that signal logical-argumentative relationships between text units.
