Abstract

The essay analyzes the category of «economic theology» moving from the polemics concerning that of «political theology». According to Giorgio Agamben, the genealogy of «economic theology» is bounded to the dogma of the Trinity. It will be shown that this interpretation is based on a conception of the Trinity derived from Heidegger, which impedes a genealogy of the pastoral government. A genealogy both of neoliberal and of pastoral government is therefore impossible due to the concept of «retroaction» and «signature». Moving from this critical analysis, the essay will propose to reconsider «economic theology» through a «history of the concept».
