Abstract

The aim of this essay is to put forward an unorthodox interpretation of Simone Weil's political thought. In contrast to the tendency of Weilian scholars to put undue stress on her approach to Christianity, the Author contends that the religious analyses provided by Weil and her heated debate with the Catholic institution are political in character. In this perspective, the Author focuses on the Weilian account of totalitarianism as the extreme expression of a political rationality occurring throughout the course of Western history.
