Abstract

The essay analyses the philosophical path that moves from Duns Scoto to Lutero throu¬gh nominalism. Some of the fundamental nodes of the protestant thought and of the following cultural and political transformations that mark modernity are pointed out, both aiming at an historical reconstruction of the beginning of modernity and stressing some critical elements of its internal tensions.
