Abstract

The author deals with one of Francesco Sansovino’s works, the collection Del governo de i regni et delle republiche cosi antiche come moderne: a treatise scarcely considered by historiography. The work appears as educational writing about political institutions of the Euro-Mediterranean countries and, in the European political and cultural history, it is noteworthy for its innovative methodology and as being a crucial testimony to the veiled circulation of Machiavelli’s writings in the Counter-Reformation Italy. The work here considered, which some scholars regard as confused collection of others’ contributions, plays an important role in the development of political and legal reflection in the modern age.
