Abstract

Microphysical reality, in the representation provided by quantum mechanics, seems to exhibit a form of "connection at a distance" among events, namely a connection among events located in spacetime regions that are macroscopically separated and pertaining to microsystems that have interacted even only for a very short time. Moreover, unlike all other fundamental interactions in nature, this connection in intensitive to the distance separating the microsystems involved. This paper addresses the question of whether this connection can be analysed in terms of its "causal efficacy". To this purpose, the lack of studies that take due account of the nature of the spacetime in which the connection occurs is emphasized and an argument against the very possibility of a sound formulation of the issue is presented.
