Abstract

The article offers a short introduction to the the latest Italian scholarship on the history of education and discusses a recent general history of education in Italy, which covers the period from 1861 to today. This work presents some interesting reflections, particularly on the Gentile reform and the current condition of the Italian educational system. It is, however, flawed both historiographically and with regard to the political and institutional dimension of the issue.
