Abstract

L’«Effemeride carceraria», «Rivista ufficiale delle carceri del Regno d’Italia», was founded in 1865 by the Piedmontese Napoleone Vazio, general inspector of the prisons of the Kingdom, and continuously directed by him for his 6 years of life. The official organ of a specific branch of the public administration, the «Direzione generale delle carceri», was born in the full explosion of the phenomenon of the «specialism» of scientific journals, with the dual purpose of informing readers about the work of the «Direzione» itself and of representing a laboratory of ideas and projects useful for carrying out a necessary prison reform
