Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted virtues and limits of choices made by cities in the recent years and has enabled the rediscovery of their underneath potentials. For example, during the lockdown Venice has become fully aware of the consequences of the choices of a monothematic economy and has rediscovered their relationship with the urban fabric and the human dimension of living. The uniqueness of Venice makes more significant that in this city has been based the international research center EPiC, a joint international research center, founded by Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia and Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei for the study of urban transformations and the identification of actions and policies aimed at fostering the transition of contemporary cities towards sustainability.
