Abstract

In most developing areas in the world, such as Asia and Latin America, demographic transition is over, but it is still ongoing in Africa. Africa's population exceeded one billion last year, and it is the youngest continent in the world. The fertility rate is still very high (4.6 births per woman). Demographer Jean-Pierre Guengant draws a non optimistic overall picture of the African continent's demographic development.
