Abstract

Fake news are not occasional lies or parasites that feed real news: they are a coherent structure that form a habitable world. Content is crafted by a small number of experts, then relayed across multiple channels and amplified as much as possible. The algorithms of Facebook and similar platforms tend to lock individuals into a self-referential bubble, populating their walls with posts from friends and advertisements that confirm their worldview and progressively exclude disagreeing contributions. What is needed is a new interpretation of reality that observes actuality as the product of a new ecosystem.
