Abstract

The essay focuses on Cormac McCarthy's The Road (2006), considered as the final chapter of a narrative and philosophical path started forty years ago with his first novels. McCarthy's literary career will be analyzed in order to understand the meaning of the symbology he adopted from "Child of God" (1974) up to "The Sunset Limited" (2006). Using an interdisciplinary approach, the Author studies the meaning of dreams as a key to interpret the most obscure parts of "The road".
