Abstract
In his considering the recently published second edition of Piero Calamandrei, "Diario" (1939-1945), Edizioni di storia e letteratura, Roma 2015 - which has appeared in a full version towards the first one published in 1982 (La Nuova Italia, Firenze) - the author discusses a number of major figures emerging from Calamandrei's story and focuses on some aspects of the cultural and political life in Italy at the time of the Second World War and Fascism.
