Abstract

Mario Spinella (1918-1994) is one of the most significant exponents of neo-avantgarde Italian Literature at the end of 20th Century. He is also renowned for being an intellectual who was an active militant in the Communist Party all his life. The unedited letter, which the article presents, sheds light on how he conceived this militancy, at least in the first stage of his political commitment. The letter provides us with further material to study the relationship between intellectuals and politics in Italy in the post war period.
