Abstract

This paper focuses on Conrad’s Critical Fortunes in Early Twentieth Century in Italy, with special attention to Giovannetti’s article, published in 1919 in Il Tempo newspaper. Although Conrad was not yet known by common Italian readers, Giovannetti shows that he had read him carefully and is able to underline many of the best literary peculiarities of the Anglo-Polish author ahead of many others. In this regard it should be added that in those years the interest in English Culture and Literature was also driven by political circumstances, as Italy and Great Britain had strengthened their alliance
