Civic Education as Global Citizenship Education: It Is More Difficult Today

Download

Abstract

In Italy, the increasing interest towards civic education (see l. 92/2019) revolved around two innovative aspects: teaching of civic education as cross-curricular learning, and the concept of evaluation as a shared responsibility among the classroom teachers. The author refers to the statements of international documents about global competence; then she distinguishes three dimensions of this learning field – macro, meso and micro – in order to propose different considerations. The complexity of teaching civic education revolves around how to transmit knowledge, abilities, competences, aptitudes and values, as these are all instrumental components of the subject. At the end of the article, the author shares considerations on how to evaluate all of these aspects.
