Abstract

The study of emotion regulation has been successfully applied in many areas of research and clinical practice. However, to date it seems appropriate to reexamine this rich production in terms of the definition of the objects of inquiry, appropriateness of the theoretical models of reference, and degree of social relevance of the studies produced. The challenge is to develop a critical reading of this process that helps define which model, which assessment, which treatment for which patient. The 21st century sees younger generations suffering more from various forms of mental distress; generations connected by the web, but often disconnected from their own emotional experiences call researchers’ attention to emotions and their regulation.
