The anonymous copyst of the «seconda minuta» (second draft) of Manzoni's I Promessi Sposi played a special part in the story of this famous novel: this fair copy, carefully corrected by Manzoni, was sent to press as the first edition of the book (the so-called «Ventisettana»). This essay investigates the identity and the role played by the copyist in the development of the text.
