Abstract

The article analyzes the content of a student magazine published in 1941 by students of a high school in Milan. The magazine was created to raise money for Italian soldiers who had run into trouble at the front, and features many elements describing the interests, thoughts, and aspirations of the youth of the time. It contained few references to fascism, but many references to the country at war. Between the lines, we can discern original and critical positions, despite the climate of censorship and conformity typical of fascist totalitarianism. Overall, a picture emerges of the intellectual vitality of the young people, some of whom were to become protagonists of anti-fascism and of the Italian democratic culture after 1945.
